Job Summary:
The Project Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating the costs, resources, and timelines required for various projects. Using their expertise in project management and cost estimation, the Project Estimator plays a critical role in ensuring that projects are completed within budget and meet client expectations. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive project evaluations to determine cost estimates, resource requirements, and timelines.
2. Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other relevant documents to accurately estimate project costs.
3. Collaborate with the project management team to understand project objectives, deliverables, and constraints.
4. Identify and quantify potential risks and uncertainties that may impact project timelines and costs.
5. Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and any other project-related expenses.
6. Create and maintain a centralized cost estimation database to ensure accurate and up-to-date project cost information.
7. Review and validate cost estimates provided by external vendors or subcontractors.
8. Collaborate with procurement teams to obtain accurate pricing for materials and services required for project execution.
9. Assist in developing project schedules and resource plans based on the estimated costs and timelines.
10. Monitor project progress and provide regular updates on estimated versus actual costs to aid in decision-making and course corrections.
11. Continuously research and stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and cost estimation methodologies.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a Project Estimator or in a similar role, preferably in a construction, engineering, or manufacturing environment.
3. Strong knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
4. Proficiency in using industry-standard cost estimation tools and software.
5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
6. Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications accurately.
7. Solid understanding of construction materials, labor costs, and industry pricing.
8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
9. Proficient in utilizing spreadsheet and project management software.
10. Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
11. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
12. Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
13. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
